Darling Downs Eye is a premier ophthalmic clinic located at St. Andrew’s Hospital, Toowoomba. The centre provides complete eye care to people of Toowoomba and the surrounding region.


The clinic is a modern, private ophthalmic practice that utilises the latest techniques to provide excellence in eye disease management. The equipment is state-of-the-art which allows for the comprehensive and most up to date treatment for conditions such as macular degeneration and glaucoma. The practice offers minor surgical procedures on site in the fully equipped treatment room. More complex procedures such as cataract surgery are conveniently performed on-site at the adjoining St.Andrew’s Hospital Day Surgery Unit.


Access to the clinic is easy with ample car parking, wheelchair and lift access.


Darling Downs Eye is owned and operated by Dr. Gilda Kert, an ophthalmologist who re-located to Toowoomba from Brisbane in 2008.


Dr. Kert is a Specialist Eye Physician and Surgeon. She provides expertise in the following eye care areas:

  • Cataract surgery
  • Pterygium surgery
  • Diseases of the retina, including macular degeneration management and the treatment of diabetic eye disease
  • Oculoplastics including eyelid deformity correction, eyelid tumour removal and reconstruction, in-growing eyelash management.

The centre opened in August 2008.


Business hours are between 8.30am and 5pm Monday to Friday and appointments can be made by calling 4633 4111.
